In August 2006 I decided to leave my home town of Chichester (UK) and go on an adventure. And adventure is what I found. After landing in Brisbane i headed south to the beautiful Gold Coast which is where i now call home.
This is where i went for my first scuba dive. After being in the water for 5mins i was hooked and was organising my openwater course as soon as i surfaced. I volunteered at a local dive shop and spent most of the summer under water. Whilst working at the dive shop i learnt a lot from all the instructors which gave me a real head start when completing my courses.
In 2008 I took part in the Byron Underwater Festival. I had only taken part as a bit of fun. I had never owned or even used a camera underwater before, so I wasn't taking it too seriously. I entered the compact camera category, with a small camera that was lent to me by one of the competition sponsors. I was so amazed when they called out the winners and i had received 3rd prize.
That was the day I realised that this is what i wanted to do with my life...
I decided i wanted a camera but this was not financially possible at the time. My good friend Kieren Curry must of trusted me immensely as he let me borrow his underwater video camera, on many occasions and this completed the puzzle. I wanted to be an underwater videographer. After some time I was able to purchase my first camera & housing. Diving regally with my buddy Kieren he taught me how to get the most from my camera and how to edit video. I intend to continue to contribute and help with dive around as I believe it is a unique and powerful resource that also looks at important conservation issues.
