Started diving while at Toowoomba Grammar School in 1971. Ted Brambleby my biology teacher taught me to dive and became my mentor instilling in me a respect for the balance in life of man and his environment and how important the marine ecosystems are to our well being. His enthusiasm inspired many of us students to continue on in marine studies even though we were all country kids.
The early 70’s were the days of diving in woolen jumpers, no bcd, 1 second stage and no pressure gauge. I had my first camera before my first wet suit, a second hand Nikonos II and was hooked. After finishing school I was on my way to James Cook University to study marine biology but as fortune would have it I ended up in the oil industry, travelling to the worlds remote oil field locations. I never lost the passion for diving, back then I was continually out searching for the ultimate dive locations and now it is more about understanding the complexities of our marine environment, very aware that we need to be better wardens of the sea.
I do like to chase the good vis and exciting diving but am very happy in my backyard the Gold Coast Seaway
