Yellowfin SurgeonfishAcanthurus xanthopterus
As adults and depending on depth and light the Yellowfin Surgeonfish can display and blue to grey-brown body with a distinct yellow pectoral fin, and a yellow bar running through each eye. There is also a white band running vertically around the base of the caudal fin. Juveniles also display this band but it is usually finer and extends along the top and bottom of the caudal fin to the tips. They have bluish purple lines running vertically over the entire body. They can be found along outer reef slopes, lagoons, coral reefs and protected bays usually in small schools. Size: Length 70cm (Maximum) Diet: Diatoms, Algae, Detrius, & Hydroids |
