Yellow BoxfishOstracion cubicus
The juvenile boxfish can be easily recognised by its box like shape and striking bright yellow body covered in black spots (usually about the same size as the fishes pupil). As adults the bright yellow fades to a more subtle shade and the spots decrease in size and turn to a more brownish colour, sometimes turning to white, edged with black. The fins of the adult become are a light blue colour. These fish are often found along coastal reefs, rocky reefs and shelter in amongst crevices and ledges. Size: Length 45cm (Maximum) Diet: Mollusks, Small Fishes, Sand-dwelling Polychaete Worms, Crustaceans & Invertebrates. |
