Juveniles are often mistaken as an anemonefish due to their appearance and they often hang around them (as pictured). They are black bodied with two distinct white blotches on the forehead and on the upper side of the body. As they mature into adults they become blue to black (sometimes grey) in colour and the white blotch on top of the head vanishes and the one on the side of the body becomes less distinct. Their fins are generally black and the scales are margined in black. Usually found along coral and coastal reefs .
