They have a large pale band (usually white to light grey) that runs around the chest, pectoral and nape area. They have small dark spots located over the head (some scattered over body) which develop into lines as the fish ages. Juveniles do not display the horn, this gradually develops as the fish matures and can be especially large in mature males. They are commonly found in small to large schools around coastal reefs, rocky outcrops and and drop offs.
