Most notable feature is its long feathery fins. It has a close banded body pattern of light brown and white. Coastal specimens are much darker and have large leaf-like appendages above eye. Inhabit various regions from brackish estuaries to clear offshore islands in lagoons and reefs. Hides in protected areas during the day, then hunts at night using its large pectoral fins to enclose prey, then stuns them and swallows them in one strike. An extremely dangerous dangerous and venomous fish to divers. It is capable of striking in almost any direction with venomous spines on its dorsal (13) and anal (4) fins, aswell as one on its pelvis.
