Southern Blue-lined OctopusHapalochlaena fasciata
A small brown to yellow octopus which is usually camouflaged until it is disturbed, where its array of colours are displayed with blue rings on the legs and blue lines on the body. This is a warning to all that is has a venomous nature. As part of the most poisonous Octopus Family, bites are often pain free and go unnoticed. The venom can can cause total muscular paralysis and in fatal cases this had lead to the cause of respiratory failure. First aid of mouth to mouth resuscitations should be given if paraylsis sets in and should not be stopped until pronounced dead. Size: 10cm Arm span (Maximum) Diet: Crustaceans & Small Fish |
