Shaw's Cowfish

As adults Shaw's Cowfish (Aracana aurita)  both the female and male are similar to the Ornate Cowfish (Aracana ornata). The female has much larger stripes over the body but the colour is similar with dark browns, orange and white. The stripes tend to be more horizontal especially around the snout area. The male has a similar caudal fin to the Ornate Cowfish and colours of yellow, orange,brown and blue. The spots on the body are not as dominant and are also displayed underneath and almost purple in colour. Horizontal stripes run over the snout area, along the mid lateral line and down to the caudal peduncle. They are commonly around rocky coastal reefs and large estauries.

Diet: Benthic Invertebrates
