Shaded BatfishPlatax pinnatus
(Other names Pinnate Spadefish, Longfin Batfish, Dusky Batfish)
Adults silver to grey bodied with two black bars running vertically, one through the eye and the other over the pectoral fin. Identified from other Batfish by its protruding mouth which is often yellow. The pectoral and caudal fin also yellow. Juveniles uniformly black bodied with bright orange edging around parts of the body. Found in coastal waters usually in sheltered areas such as overhangs and along outer reef slopes in deeper waters in small schools. Size: 35cm (maximum) Diet: Algae, Zooplankton, Jellyfish |
