Saddled Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ephippium) is easily recognised by a large white banded black area over the upper sides below the dorsal fin.This commences from the spinous section curving round to the dorsal end. Wavey blue - grey lines/stripes appear on the lower sides. The breast and snout are yellow. Adults have a filament that extends posteriorly from the upper part of the soft dorsal fin. Juveniles live secretly in coastal rocky reefs. Size: Grows upto 30cm in Length Diet: algae, small invertebrates, coral polyps, fish eggs |
