Round BatfishPlatax orbicularis
(Other names Circular Spadefish, Orbicular Batfish)
Small juveniles are a orange to brown with an angular dorsal fin. Larger juveniles have four vertical bands black and white halfway down body. Adults are similar yet colour is faded, they have pale yellow pectoral fins and the dorsal fin is rounded. They can also have small black dots over the side and a faint amount of yellow brushed over them. Adults solitary or in small groups over sandy areas of deep lagoons and reefs. Juveniles are coastal, and found amongst mangroves and in channels amongst leaf matter. Size: 50cm (Maximum) Diet: Feed on algae, invertebrates and small fishes. |
