Ornate WobbegongOrectolobus ornatus
(Other names Banded Wobbegong)
From army green to dark browns this is a very well camouflaged shark. They have lighter areas over their back, separated by darker saddles and blotching all over. They are a common species found around inshore continental waters, disguising themselves amongst coral reefs and algal-covered rocky areas. They are a nocturnal shark that rests at the bottom by day, then will prowl by night for their bottom dwelling prey. They are very similar to the Spotted Wobbegong (O. maculatus), however look much 'rougher'. Size: 3m (Maximum) Diet: Benthic Invertebrates & Fishes |
