This fish derived its name from mimicking the poisonous Saddled Puffer Canthigaster valentini . To distinguish between the two species, the Mimic has two dorsal fins while the Saddled Puffer only has one. They have a whitish body with black saddles over the back and a number of black spots and blotches along the side of the body. The saddles have a yellowish tint around the outside and the caudal fin is generally yellow. They can be found in sheltered areas around coastal and seaward reefs.
