Marbled RockcodEpinephelus maculatus
(Other names Highfin Grouper, Trout Cod)
Juveniles are dark brown bodied with numerous white blotches and markings and a few scattered relatively large black spots. Two distinct white bands are located on the dorsal fin (one at the base and beginning of the dorsal fin and the other about half way down). These two markings remain as they develop in to adults. As they mature the spots become smaller, more dominant, and dark brown in colour forming hexagonal shapes on a greyish brown body. They can be found solitary in shallow coral and coastal reefs, lagoons and seaward reefs in depths of up to 100m. Size: 60cm in length (Maximum) Diet: Fish & Crustaceans |
