A small wrasse highly variable in colour depending on environment . Deep red, brown, yellow, green or a mix of these. White and black spots run horizontal along the body. In adult males a filament runs from the caudal fin. Juveniles have a distinct black spot behind the pectoral fins

Diet: Benthic Crustaceans
