Map Image

Grey and variable shades of brown spots make up the colouration of this Grouper. The spots are surrounded by fine white lines which give the hexagon shape to its appearance. They generally have between 4 -6 dark brown blotches running down the base of the dorsal fin. Depending on the stage of growth, other dark blotches may be found around the face and under the belly. They are commonly found in the shallow waters of outer reef habitats near surge points.
