Harlequin Tuskfish

Choerodon fasciatus
Map Image

Adults have eight orange vertical bands, three of which are on the head. These are divided by white, sometimes slightly blue bands. Their body darkens towards the tail as they age. Interestingly they have blue teeth. Juveniles have brown banding and 'eye-like' spots on their dorsal and anal fins. Juveniles are solitary, remaining close to reef channel walls. Adults gather in small loose congregations in large caves, in overhangs or near rubbly slopes of outer reefs and lagoons.
