Giant Trevally

Caranx ignobilis
(Other names Ulua)
Map Image

They have a very steep and blunt head profile. In colour they are almost white-silver, often with small black dots over the body but lack a large black spot behind the eye. Juveniles have a golden hue especially around the fins. They gather in schools near estuaries, then as they mature they move out to deeper waters but remain in schools. Large adults of about 4 years, cruise in solitude near deep drop-offs of clear lagoons and seaward reefs. With a sudden burst of power and speed they crash into bait fish devouring them or atleast stunning them to then be eaten.
