Giant Moray

Gymnothorax javanicus
Map Image

Well known as the largest moray eel, it has a brown body with irregular dark brown to black small spots and the head can sometimes appear to be a yellowish brown in colour. It can also be identified by the black blotch that surrounds the gill. Although often considered to be quite placid, caution should be taken when sighted. Their jaws and teeth may inflict harmful wounds if provoked or caught off guard.
