Footballer CodPlectropomus laevis
(Other names Blacksaddled Coral Grouper)
This cod is known to have two different colour variations but not enough research has been comprised to confirm which variation applies to which growth stage or sex. May be found as white bodied with yellow fins and patch on the face and snout with distinct dark brown to black saddles like patches running along the back starting from the back of the head (this variation is thought to be the juvenile/female). The other variation (thought to be the male) is grey/brown and white bodied with small blue spots edged in black and dark grey saddle like patches over the first half of the back of the fish starting at the top of the head. All fins are also grey/brown with white markings over the middle of the caudal fin. Found solitary along coral and seaward reefs. Size: 1.25 metres (Maximum) Diet: Fish & Crustaceans |
