Elegant Wrasse

The Elegant Wrasse  (Anampses elegans) are listed as a protected fish in NSW under the Fisheries Management Act 1994. Heavy penalties apply for taking or possessing them.

Although highly variable in colour, they tend to follow these rules: Juveniles and females are similar is coloration Yellow gold or brown on top with blue spots fading to white. Females when mature display a pink cheek band. Males are yellow, brown or green on top with a definite mid lateral  break in colour the bottom half of the fish is a brilliant blue colour, behind the males eye is a bright yellow blotch.

Size: 30cm in length

Diet: Carnivorous, feeding mainly on tiny molluscs and crustaceans
