Coral PigfishBodianus axillaris
(Other names Axil Pigfish, Axilspot Hogfish, Coral Hogfish)
Coral Pigfish (Coral Pigfish) Juveniles very different to that of the adults. They are black bodied with numerous white spots (usually between 8 - 10) on the outer edges of the entire body. As they develop into adults the body becomes two different colours. The front is a red to brown and towards the back end of the fish turns to white. Adults have a distinct black spot at the base of the pectoral fin, on the anal fin and on the dorsal fin. Edges of the caudal fin display yellow. Usually inhabit seaward reefs, lagoons and rocky estauries. Size: Length 20cm (Maximum) Diet: Molluscs, crustaceans, benthic algae. |
