The Carpet Wrasse (Novaculichthys taeniourus) Adults dark brown to black bodied with numerous white checkers that run along each scale and a distinct white bar on the caudal peduncle. The face is a pale grey with small fine dark lines protruding from the eye and can usually be found swimming in pairs around large coral reef systems. Juveniles are pale brown bodied with numerous black edged white markings over the body and are commonly found solitary in protected reef systems. Juveniles are easy to identifiy as that have two large reindeer like elongated dorsal spines that sit ontop of the head. Size: 30cm in length (Maximum) Diet: Benthic invertebrates |
