Bullethead ParrotfishChlorurus sordidus

This Parrotfish is variable in colour depending on the stage of growth. Juveniles have a black body with red tints and red around the mouth and head area. They have a distinct blotch on the caudal peduncle which fades with maturity. As they grow these colours break up and as adults they a greenish body and each scale has a pale shade of purple around the edge. The caudal peduncle is a very pale green and the cheeks are often yellow with pinkish lines around the mouth. They inhabit coral rich areas of lagoons, coastal and seaward reefs.
