Shark Point

Clovelly - Sydney - NSW

Situated on the left hand side of Clovelly Pools in the eastern suburbs of Sydney is Shark Point. This is an intermediate to advanced site, you should not attempt to dive here in bad weather or without gaining a proper  dive orientation,  better yet do a few dives with somebody who has knowledge of the dive site.

I did two dives here on the 23/12/209 &  24/12/2009 with Dive Around Photographer Nick Catran.  The walk down the the entry point, in full gear and with cameras took about 10 minutes over rocks, so be prepared to sweat. The entry was straight off the rocks into a fissure. Max depth at Shark Point is around 30 metres. There are countless rocks and overhangs to explore, sponge gardens and healthy amounts of kelp on the rocks, that gets thicker towards the south end of the dive. Fish life is in a abundance here, Blue Gropers, Reef triggerfish and Crimson Wrasse can be seen.

So far, from all the shore dives I have done in Sydney, this has been the best, yes entry and exit can be a bit hard, but the marine life and the geography of the site is just amazing. The highlight of the dive was filming my first Giant Cuttlefish.
