Clovelly Pools

Clovelly - Sydney - NSW

The site is situated on the Southern shore of Clovelly, in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Scuba diving  is not permitted here during the day. So if you want to dive, it has to be really early morning or at night.

I did a night dive here on 23/12/09 with Dive Around Photographer Nick Catran. The walk from the car park to the pool is a short one, and entry to the pool is down concrete steps nice and easy! The max depth in the pool is only around six metres, the bottom is mostly rocky, but there are patches of sand scattered throughout the pool. During the dive we saw a lot on juvenile  Mado, also  Octopus, Cuttlefish, Rays and plenty of sweeps and goatfish.

Every time I return to Sydney to dive, there appear to be more and more Sea urchins. I don't know if this is healthily growing population, or if like in other parts of Australia they are harming the Marine environment (See Disappearing Act by Seanna Cronin)   The highlight of the dive was a Crested Horn Shark, which was kind enough to pose for photos & video. I really enjoyed the night dive at Clovelly Pools, it is a really easy night dive, excellent for the beginner, who wants to experience the thrill of night diving.
